Farm Pic of the Day

by Ken Greene

Farming and gardening is all about accepting transition and change. At any given moment plants are at all stages of their life cycles, our minds are checking off and adding items on the endless to-do list, and the weather is teasing us. Just in the last week we've gone from 20 degrees above average to 10 below average.

This pic, one seemingly still moment in time, belies multiple seed stories. Here you can see (from front to back) new beds being prepared for root crops, calendula getting ready to flower, flashy butter oak lettuce barely bolting, evening primrose in full bloom, clear dawn onion flowers fading, parsnip setting seed, and in the far back a huge backhoe named KOMATSU(na) digging a trench for our new irrigation system.
