Seed Donation Nominations 2013

Here at the Seed Library, we love gardening, and we believe it should be a part of everyone's lives. To help make gardening as accessible as possible, we are donating packs of seeds to gardeners in need.

We need your help finding good homes for them!

Cumberland County Master Gardeners organization will be teaching the importance of birds to our environment – in fact attracting birds to our backyards. Our theme for the Eco Fair will be “This Place is for the Birds.” This year, the Eco Fair will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013. We will be repeating our presentations on Saturday, May 11th at the Street Fair in Millville, New Jersey on Saturday, May 11th.

On both occasions, we will be teaching about the wonder of birds – amazing creatures who spend their whole lives with no appendages like arms or hands to do everything they need to do- building nests, finding food, feeding their young. One of our contests will be trying to eat with hands tied behind backs; another will be a relay race using a spoon held in their mouth to carry seeds to a nest container. We will have students assemble nesting materials (yarns, threads, material scraps) in suet containers to be hung in their backyards. We will also have children planting zinnia seeds to take home, nurture, transplant and watch birds as they are attracted to these colorful flowers. We also have a commitment from a person in the organization to display her caged exotic birds.

Would the Seed Library contribute some seeds for flowers/vegetables/herbs that will attract birds to children's gardens?
