Seeds Seen: Vogue Magazine, New York State Museum,  Rhode Island Flower Show, Women's Studio Workshop Chili Bowl, New Stores, Roll Magazine, more...

Our seeds have a way of showing up in unusual and unexpected places. It's not that we're raising little drama queen seeds, or that we are pushy stage parents, but we do like getting the word out about how important seeds are.

Thanks to John Patrick Organic our seeds are in Vogue, literally!

Seeds are the foundation of our lives. Seed saving is what allowed humans to settle, cultivate, and stay healthy through winter. Agriculture, food, clothing, books, gardens, and culture are all connected to seeds.  But seeds are too often overlooked and forgotten in conversations about sustainability, articles about agriculture, documentaries on food issues, and in our daily lives.

Thanks to WSW for printing these cute chili seed packs and having them as part of their annual Chili Bowl Fiesta fundraiser for our seeds. They will soon be for sale in our catalog with proceeds supporting WSW.

One of the goals of the Seed Library is to bring attention to seeds, the seed industry, the loss of genetic diversity and its impact, and the importance of saving open-pollinated and heirloom varieties. Our Art Packs are one way we do this, getting people to think of seeds as stories, as something worth celebrating, as cultural resources. The creativity of each artist reflects the diversity of the seeds themselves and gets people to think twice about the seeds. The artwork has opened doors for us and allowed us the chance to talk about seeds in non-traditional venues like galleries, gift shops, restaurants, libraries, and normally ornamental focused garden clubs.

We love these cross-pollinating opportunities which allow us to reach people who may or may not have thought about the fundamental importance of seeds, where seeds are grown, who grows them, or how they are grown.

I'll be posting Seed Scene from time to time with updates on the pop, political, odd, intellectual, and unusual places our seeds have been seen. If you see our seeds somewhere snap a pic or jot it down and let me know! If you have an idea, connection, or place you think our seeds should be seen help us make it happen! Publicity helps sow seeds and awareness. Stay seedy!
