A stand out in any garden, these striking plants give a tropical flair wherever they are planted. Not only is the foliage an art unto itself, but the gorgeous flowers will wow you every time. Plus, the okra is a prized garden vegetable! Our favorite preparation is a tomato-laden curry.

How to Grow

Okra is extremely intolerant of cold. Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost and transplant outdoors after all threat of frost has passed. Some gardeners give okra a heat boost by covering it with row cover until it produces flowers. Okra can thrive in moderate soils. Keep watered, but allow to dry out between waterings. Harvest pods while still tender, up to 5-6" in length.
