Retailer Spotlight: One Good Woman

by Erin Enouen

You might have seen a wooden counter-top display filled with Art Packs and topped with a bright green Hudson Valley Seed Library logo at your favorite garden center or eco-conscious gift shop. (Our awesome farm worker Stu (aka Rustic Stu) makes the custom, hand-crafted displays for our wholesale accounts that fit Art Packs perfectly.) You might have even been introduced to the Hudson Valley Seed Library by one of the fabulous stores that carry our seeds. Since we don't have a retail shop, it's very important to us that our seeds be available to purchase by customers in person, which is why we offer our seed racks to retail stores across the US.

In addition to being beautiful, our Art Packs celebrate the the beauty and diversity of heirloom gardening, the importance of seed saving, and the artists who design them. It's part of our mission to get heirloom seeds back into the hands of gardeners, and having stores introduce gardeners and gift-givers to our Art Packs helps us reach that goal.

Since we ship the seeds to stores, we don't often get to see what they look like in a shop. We ran a contest for our retail locations. We asked them to take a photo of our seed rack in their store and tell us a bit about customers responses. We love seeing our seeds well displayed in different stores including High Falls Mercantile, Park + Vine, Crossroads Hydroponics.

Our seed display contest winner is One Good Woman, in Camp Hill, PA.

One Good Woman sells the finest coffees, teas, gifts and gourmet goods. This year as part of their spring garden gifts program they featured the Hudson Valley Seed Library. OGW owner Holly O'Connor, "The response to the Hudson Valley Seed Library was fantastic. People are attracted to the beautiful art work and they love the seeds. The Art Packs make a terrific gift to usher in spring."

"We went overboard on the Hudson Valley Seed Library," Holly says. "These seed packets say, 'Buy me!' and we wanted them front and center. We quickly sold out and had to reorder."

One Good Woman has been in business for 16 years. Holly has received the Eileen Fisher Woman's Business award and she has been named one of the 50 Best Women in Business in Pennsylvania.

If you have a store that you think would like to carry our seeds, let us know! We'll be happy to send them information about our seed racks.
