Seedy Reads: Seed to Seed by Suzanne Ashworth

by Tusha Yakovleva

We've recently added a selection of books to our holiday gift offerings. We are happy to be able to share these kernels of wisdom with our seedy community, to help grow better gardeners, eaters, seed savers, farmers, activists, and artists. Suzanne Ashworth's book - Seed to Seed - is all about, well, seeds. That's our favorite subject around here.

This is a comprehensive guide on saving vegetable seeds, full of good information for beginning seed savers and those of us whose closets are already overflowing with jars and envelopes of seeds. Ashworth provides details about 160 vegetable varieties, including botanical classification, flower structure and pollination, isolation distance, population size, caging or hand pollination, and proper methods to grow, harvest, dry, clean, and store the seeds.
