Starflower
Certified Organic Seed
Scabiosa stellata
Nectar rich blooms give way to intricate dry seed heads.
These intricate flowers have spherical seed heads that can be used to create lovely dried arrangements. Jutting vertically from the base of the plant on long stems, the bracts that accompany the mature seed are papery cones, clustering together to suggest a delicate, lightweight geodesic sphere. At the center of each cone, the remnants of the bloom open to form a perfect, thinly stretched star. Also attractive to pollinators and beautiful insect garden guests.

For best results, winter sow poppy seeds or sow in very early spring in a prepared garden bed. Thin seedlings to 12-18" apart. Alternately, start indoors in early spring by pressing the seeds into the soil, but do not cover them. Keep in a cool place. Transplant when small without disturbing the roots. Once flowering, water infrequently.
