Violina Rugosa Butternut Squash
Certified Organic Seed
Curcurbita moschata
A rare variety with warty skin and the richest, sweetest flesh.
We heard about this rare variety from several customers and decided to try it for ourselves. We're glad we did! The violin shaped fruits have buff-colored, warty skin on the outside, and a small seed cavity. Each squash yields about 3-4 lbs of flesh per fruit. The flavor is sweet and rich- somewhere between a butternut and a kabocha. We roasted one for Thanksgiving and everyone raved about it. Needs space to sprawl.

Direct sow after frost, or start indoors 2-3 weeks earlier. Transplant in hills spaced 6' apart, 3 plants per hill, or in rows 36" apart. Plants can grow 6' or more, so give plenty of space to take over. Mulch early to help suppress weeds. Harvest when squash are buff colored with no trace of green. Cure in a dry, warm place for a week or so, then store in a cool, dry, dark place.
