Light Red Kidney Bean

Certified Organic

Phaseolus vulgaris

Expect great yields.

Most dry beans in the grocery store are at least a year old. You'll be shocked when you try dry beans grown in your garden. They require less soaking time, and the flavor is more nutty and complex than their grocery store counterparts.
Light Red Kidney Beans do incredibly well in the northeast climate. This bush-habit dry bean has fewer days to maturity than most other dry beans, making your chances of success in this often unpredictable climate great. Expect high yields of large pale-red beans that are splendid in soups, chilies and tacos.

Direct sow outdoors as soon as the threat of frost has passed. Sow seeds 1 inch apart and thin to 6-8 inch spacing. Protect with row cover from bean beetles if necessary. For best results, allow the beans to dry on the plant. Harvest beans when dry prior to the first fall frost. If weather does not permit this, pull the plants up at the last possible moment and hang to dry, then thresh the plants to remove the beans. Store in a cool, dry dark place.
