Though related, black cumin (Nigella sativa) is a different species than common cumin (Cuminum cynimum). N. sativa also happens to be the same species as the beautiful flowering plant love in a mist. Native to northern Africa, southeastern Europe and southern Asia, N. sativa produces a large intriguing seed pods that makes the matte black seeds a cinch to harvest. It's been toted as a remedy for everything from cancer to allergies. It has a stronger, more bitter flavor than common cumin and can be used in both cooking and teas.
