Bronze Fennel
Certified Organic Seed
Foeniculum vulgare
Attractive feathery herb that's delicious fresh or for its seeds.
Exquisitely bronzed fronds that make a stunning edible ground cover. This is not a fennel for bulb production; harvest the leaves and chop them finely for tossing fresh atop a finished dish, like parsley. Its beautiful bronze hue adds an intriguing contrast to herb gardens, container gardens, and borders. Don't be afraid to let it flower: it's bushy yellow blooms host swallowtail butterflies, and the anise-flavored seeds are delicious in baking, meat dishes, and more. It grows quickly, spreads easily, and self-sows.

Plant as soon as the danger of frost has passed in well-draining soil. Water thoroughly after planting and once a week during summer, unless rainfall is plentiful. Established plants can generally get by on less water. Cut back to the ground at the end of the season after seeds have formed. Fennel has a long tap root which should not be disturbed after planting.
