Ẹ̀lú Indigo Dye Workshop with Kemi Oritsejafor 1/24/26 - 1:30PM
Saturday January 24, 2026
1:30PM - 4:30PM
Learn about indigo dyeing in the context of Yoruba culture through this three hour workshop led by Kemi Oritsejafor, founder of SOLA Market. Students will learn about Yoruba/Nigerian dye practices and have the opportunity to create their own dyed fabrics.
All materials are included in this workshop, including a ½ yard of cotton + raw silk for each participant to practice with. Participants are welcome to bring their own garments or fabrics* such as medium to light-colored cotton and silk items to overdye, a method in which you dye with a darker pigment to cover stains, add a new color or refresh.
*Items that cannot go in the dye bath: polyester, leather, fur, spandex (lycra), nylon, sheer (gauzy) fabrics, lace, wool, undergarments, and some upholstery fabrics.
This workshop is in collaboration with SOLA Market and part of the Honeysuckle Summer Series of events.
The workshop takes place at the Hudson Valley Seed Company, 11 Airport Rd, Accord, NY 12404.
