Garlic is planted in the fall into well amended soil and then tucked under mulch, such as straw, for the winter. Over the winter, garlic will start to root and grow. As spring arrives, sprouts will peek through the melting snow and continue growing. In early summer, hardneck varieties will produce delicious scapes and then an abundant harvest follows a few weeks after.
