Grow a gorgeous sunset palette in warm shades of rose, honey, copper, and raspberry with this early-flowering Rudbeckia. This half hardy annual mix produces double and semi-double blooms from mid-summer through frost. Long-lasting as a cut flower, deadhead often to keep the colors at their most vibrant. A powerful pollinator attractor, the Rudbeckia species can be found in prairies, meadows, and roadsides across North America.

Growing instructions

Direct sow any time of year or start indoors in late winter or early spring, by pressing seeds into the surface of the soil, and keeping soil moist but not wet until seeds have germinated. Light aids in germination. Ideal germination temperature is around 70 degrees F. Rudbeckias are hardy plants and compete fairly well with weeds once established, but they'll need cultivation when young. They are not fussy about soil but need reasonable drainage. Plant somewhere where their bursting-forth mid-summer joy can be fully appreciated. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong bloom time.

It’s hard to do this stunning beauty justice. My first year growing this variety, and I am absolutely enamored. Germination was a little tricky for me, and they grew slowly for a while, but really took off beautifully once they settled in. Chocolatey mocha, raspberry, caramel, honey, peach, maroon, lemon yellow…the color variation is astonishing. It is so remarkable that as a community seedkeeper I am planning on trying to grow my own seed from this mix next growing season.
