    Plant in fall. See our guide to growing garlic. On the differences between softnecks and hardnecks:

    Softnecks are best for warmer climates as they don't tend to be as winter hardy. They also store longer than many hardneck varieties. Hardnecks have fewer, larger cloves per bulb making them easier to peel. They also develop a long flowering stem (the scape), unlike softnecks.
