Honey Drop is the cake of cherry tomatoes: an exceptionally sweet, well-flavored, and full-bodied tomato with substance. They are the ideal snacking tomato, small and mighty, with a fruity flavor and honey-like sweetness that beloved hybrid Sungold just can't match. Tevis and Rachel Robertson-Goldberg of Crabapple Farm in Chesterson, MA developed this variety, and we were introduced to it by our pal Jay Armour from Four Winds Farm in Gardiner, NY. He says of this tasty cherry, "I'm excited about having an open pollinated alternative to Sungold." Our stock has been selected for resistance to cracking, color, flavor, and disease resistance. In 2014, we tasted the Honey Drop alongside Sungold F1. 60% of our tasters preferred the sweet and smooth Honey Drop!

Growing Instructions

Start in a warm bright spot (supplemental light is recommended) indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost, then transplant to the garden after frost, when seedlings are at least 5" high. Honey Drops can grow quite tall, so support is necessary to keep plants healthy and manageable. Harvest the sweet, little, precious drops when they ripen to a golden, amber-yellow color.

I have not had any luck getting any to germinate and I've used all the seeds except 5 or so. All my other packs were very good but this one I can't say the same for!

This is my second year growing Honey Drop cherry tomatoes. They quickly became my absolute go to for cherry tomatoes. They're sweet with a burst of berry type flavor when you first pop them in your mouth. The plants themselves are hardy and prolific. Its hard to keep up with them once they're at the peak of their production.

Looking forward to planting. I've heard that it's comparable to Sun Gold and those are so deliciously sweet. Hoping the same with the Honey Drop.

These are absolutely spectacular plants. I started these indoors and eventually transplanted to a raised bed. The plants are huge, productive, and the tomatoes are unbelievable! So sweet, so fragrant, so flavorful. It's almost November here in zone 7A and I'm still getting handfuls of perfect tomatoes every day, despite the occasional cold night and my tendency to not water as frequently as I should ;) The best seeds I've grown from HVS so far!!

Easy and delicious These are doing amazing!! The plant is probably like 8 feet tall already if not more. My kids absolutely love these tomatoes and eat them straight off the vine every day after school. I need to plant two next year if I want some! Other than the plant growing WAY over the top of my cage with lots of time left to go - I have had zero issues with this plant. And this is my first year gardening. Western suburbs of Chicago, IL (zone 5b)

Vigorous and productive These started out as vigorous and determined seedlings, and have not lost their rapid growth despite a wet and humid summer leaving my tomato plants speckled with disease. While most of my tomato plants are limping along, the honey drop is throwing out new growth and sets of tomatoes despite these setbacks. I'll definitely grow again, although I will give them extra room, as they have overtaken some of my weaker tomato plants. The fruit are mild and very tasty, almost creamy, and more substantive than a sungold, with no cracking despite fluctuating rain.
