Campfire Rudbeckia
Rudbeckia hirta
Certified Organic
Vigorous bright-ember blooms.
A golden rudbeckia with painterly dark markings on some petals reminiscent of the light and shadow cast around a campfire. Blackbird Rise Farm, where these seeds are collected, got its name from the red-winged blackbirds that visit the wildflowers of Maine. This rudbeckia showed up in the meadows surrounding the farm and exists at the intersection of wild and cultivated, annual and perennial, field and farm. We love how these bright golden petals dramatically shift to burnt sienna evoking the saying by Ursula Le Guin: "When you light a candle, you also cast a shadow."
Rudbeckias are cheery, generally fuss-free perennials that compete well with weeds and easily adapt to a variety of garden conditions.

I winter sowed these in 2022 and they are EPIC this year!! They’re in rocky soil on a sunny, mostly neglected area, and have put forth the most glorious amd abundant blooms with little work. A little thinning was necessary due to some mildew (humid summers in New England) but nothing a few minutes with clippers couldn’t handle. Perfect cutting flowers. Over the moon for these!!
I wanted to support a local company and the uoung people behind it. I am a senior citizen with decades of gardening experience. The Rudbeckia Campfire seeds have a medium-low germination rate which is much worse than rudbeckia seeds from Johnny's seeds (85%) and Botanical Interests seeds (100%). After germinating, about 25% of the seedlings never grow past their cotyledons. while all my other rudbeckia seeds are growing vigorously.
We are so sorry that you had trouble germinating our Rudbeckia seeds! Please reach out to our customer service team (mail@hudsonvalleyseed.com) We guarantee our seeds, and are happy to make this right for you.
Fast shipping. The seeds looks good.
