Artwork by Elizabeth Castaldo
"I make works on paper using mixed media including printmaking, drawing, painting and collage, building up richly layered surfaces that are colorful, heavily patterned and often have figurative subjects. Working with pattern has been a way of accumulating mass, making something big out of something small. Generating abundance in a world of manufactured scarcity. By covering the surface in pattern, I am emphasizing the interconnectedness of all things and attempting to create transformation through repetition in which the body(ies) and environment become one....The artwork for the Mazurkia Zinnia design was made with a combination of hand drawn, collage, and digital elements. Since the name of the flower comes from the Mazurka, a traditional Russian dance and music, I incorporated silhouettes of Mazurka dancers as well as Mazurka sheet music that was available through the New York Public Library Picture Collection. The flowers themselves are hand drawn and digitally colored using digital brushes that mimic watercolor. The flowers fill the silhouettes of the dancers and as they break into the background the flower shapes become filled with the sheet music. I added a drop shadow to the sheet music flower shapes as well as to the dancers to add depth and dimension and give them the look of physical pieces of paper even though both were added digitally." - Elizabeth Castaldo
The paper dimensions are 10 3/4 x 15 5/8 inches to fit a standard frame. Frame pictured not included.
We print all of our pieces on archival fine art papers using archival inks to ensure they will last as contemporary heirloom art. We recommend making sure there is space between the glass and print. You can do this by matting the print or you can skip the mat and have a spacer put in the frame.
