A highly decorative, dazzling sweet pepper with a past.

Seeds have been traded for generations and, according to author and seed steward extraordinaire William Woys Weaver, sometimes even given in exchange for bee stings. Folk artist Horace Pippin suffered from an injury for which bee sting therapy provided relief. Will's grandfather H. Ralph Weaver provided the bees, and Pippin gave him seeds, many of which are part of Will's Roughwood Seed Collection. Being sweet, this pepper lacks sting. But we are confident that it will still generate plenty of buzz!

This pepper dazzles with purple flowers with pendant fruit on 32" plants. 3-3½" pods ripen from black (with green interiors) to honey-mustard, and then to golden-orange. Sweet flavor with very thin flesh ideal for stuffing or pickling. A potted plant makes a great edible decoration for summer gatherings.

Growing instructions
To start indoors, sow 1 seed per cell. Transplant when seedlings have 1 healthy set of true leaves. Or, direct sow in clumps of 2-3 seeds, thinning to the strongest seedling. Harvest fruits when they have obtained full deep yellow color. Bush habit, suitable for smaller spaces or a large container.

    One of my favorite peppers! It has beautiful purple flowers and watching the peppers change color as it ripens is a joy. I never do this but I overwintered 4 of the plants.

    I planted these at our house and also selected them to be planted by our cub scout pack. They have done so well in our garden which is shaded a bit too much, and so well with our scouts. I gave them a couple variety of plants to choose from, by far this out performed and was more successful for families than anything else. I have even had requests that we plant them again for the next springs planting day.
    At our house it is mid September and we planted many different kinds of peppers, this is the only pepper that has set fruit at all. We have enjoyed them at all different stages of color. The plants are easily over 4ft tall. I have them staked with coated rebar. The plant just keep branching and producing more peppers. The plants are loved by many insects in our garden including ants, and which an over 4ft plant- that must be a journey!
