The Hudson Valley Seed Library is very excited to once again be a sponsor for the second annual National Heirloom Expo in Santa Rosa, California.
The three day event is the “World’s Fair” of heirloom gardening. There will be amazing speakers including Dr. Vandana Shiva. There will also be the largest ever display of heirloom produce, plus music, food, workshops, auction, and a marketplace with heirloom goods. Because of our passion for bringing together the arts and gardening, we are organizing a special Art of the Heirloom exhibit for the Expo. We are currently accepting submissions from artists who would like to be in the exhibit. See Call for Art and Guidelines below.
The Art of the Heirloom at the National Heirloom Exposition

Are you and artist inspired by heirloom gardens? Gardens are unique expressions of a gardener’s hand. Heirloom varieties are a reflection of the diversity of gardener’s sensibilities, palate, and notions of beauty.The Art of the Heirloom is an exhibition of artist’s interpretations and contemplations of heirloom seeds and the cultural importance of preserving our collective garden heritage.We seek works of art that are inspired by heirloom gardening. Works in all media and formats will be considered excluding still photography. Works may be illustrative, sculptural, abstract, concrete, or conceptual interpretations of the following four categories:
Garden Variety: To enter this category the work must represent a specific identified variety or varieties of heirloom vegetables, fruits, herbs, or flowers.
Save the Seed: This category includes works related to seeds, seed stories, open-pollination, seed saving/breeding, food politics, GMOs, and regional seed sovereignty. (Art made from or incorporating seeds or plant material will also be considered for this category.)
Sowers and Growers: Art depicting heirloom gardens, gardeners, American garden/farm heritage, sustainable agriculture, and the act of growing.
From Seed to Plate: Artwork related to harvesting, cooking, recipes, and eating.

Submissions: Deadline July 31st
This is a not-for-profit event, a percentage of funds generated from sales of art will be donated back to cover gallery fees as well as school gardens and food programs fundraising.
