Deitrich's Wild Broccoli Raab

Brassica rapa

Certified Organic

Microgreens Suitable

Grown on Our Farm

A great summer-sown broccoli raab.

What a joy to stroll into the fields in April and find a bounty of florets when little else is available to eat fresh. A New Jersey landrace variety from Nate and Dusty at the Experimental Farm Network, this broccoli raab is delectable raw or cooked, and the florets can be harvested and left to regrow throughout the season. The leaves are delicious too!

Growing instructions
Direct sow anytime between late Spring and late Summer by scattering seeds and tamping down before watering in lightly. Thin to 4" apart for sturdier greens, or leave plants close together and cut them in bunches. Allow 20 days for baby, 40 for mature leaves. Succession sow 2 weeks apart for a steady harvest. Cut the florets when they're 4-8", then return to harvest again every 3-6 days.

We planted our broccoli raab in early September hoping for a late fall crop.
We covered it with an improvised greenhouse made from a frame of two old glass doors leaning against each other and Hudson Valley Seed Co. row cover.
The photo was taken today, November 7, and the plants look gorgeous with beautiful leaves.
They are growing more slowly than the 28 day-growth written on the seed pack, but we think it's due to limited sun in the garden bed this time of year.

Perhaps they'll be part of delicious Thanksgiving meal!

I am a big fan of broccoli rabe and was excited to try Dietrich's Wild Broccoli Rabe in my garden. It produced the most delicious leaves all season--cut and come again! I used it as a leafy green like chard or kale which made it incredibly versatile. Love, love, love.

Poor germination in the first batch, the courtesy batch you sent was better but still only modestly successful.
The young plants I have look vigorous and I look forward to tasting them.
Here in Portland, Oregon they will grow through the winter.
Thank you again for the courtesy seed packets.
