Red Acre Cabbage
Brassica oleracea
Certified Organic
Microgreens Suitable
Versatile, easy and perfect for kraut, slaw, and cooked dishes
Red Acre Cabbage heads reach about 6" in diameter and weigh about 3 pounds--an ideal size for the home garden.
Along the wind-swept, salt-sprayed coastlines of the Mediterranean grow huge colonies of wild cabbage. From this unlikely niche have been developed all the cultivated members of the Brassica oleracea species, including broccoli, brussels sprouts, kohlrabi, kale, collards, and heading cabbage. Unexpressed in the wild species, the trait for the purple hue we call "red" has been revealed by careful selection over the ages. While it may be happiest basking in the sun on the Mediterranean (who wouldn't be?), it grows readily and fairly quickly in gardens around the world.

Hi Rebecca. We see that you ordered that Red Acre Cabbage in Feb 2024. We discovered, through customer emails, that there was contamination in the lot we were selling at that time. We have since discarded the contaminated seed and any seed currently available is Red Acre Cabbage. We encourage you to reach out with any growing or germination issues. Our customer service team is always happy to help. Someone will be in touch to resolve this for you.
Same as the other reviewer - mine also grew more similar to kohlrabi instead of cabbage. Not sure what happened, but very disappointed.
Hi Mara.,
Thank you for letting us know about this mix up. We are reaching out through our customer service email to make it right.
I'm sorry I don't have a photo to post, but this cabbage never set heads in my garden last year (2024). What grew in place of a head was a large football shaped mass with leaves protruding here and there--it looked more like a giant malformed Kohlrabi than a cabbage. If this had just been one plant it wouldn't have seemed that strange, but I had 3 of these in my warmer garden, and another 3 in my cooler (later season) garden, and they all did the same thing! As seedlings, they looked like perfectly normal cabbage plants. Other than their red color, you wouldn't have noticed anything different about them in the row of other cabbage seedlings in which they were planted.
Hello Christine,
We are so sorry to hear about your cabbage! We are reaching out through our customer service email to get this resolved for you.
