Scarlet Peony Poppy
Papaver somniferum
Certified Organic
Richly-colored, many-petaled, huge splendors of flowers
These extraordinary 2- to 3-foot tall plants burst with densely ruffled and exquisitely fringed scarlet red blooms that are 5 inches in diameter. These are a showstopper in the late June or early July flower garden.
Though each bloom is short-lived, as is the case with all poppies, one sowing usually provides plants that bloom over the course of 7-10 days. (For a longer season, make several sowings at weekly intervals.) Poppies don't make great cut flowers, but with a variety this showy it's hard not to pluck a few for the vase; if picked early in the morning, they will generally hold up for 24 hours before shedding their petals.

I sooo love these scarlet peony poppies that I direct sowed in January 2024. Great results!
I have a garden hill that faces south in Mount Marion, NY, near HV Seed Co. :) Lucky me!
I really love this company & their integration of art work on packs, wall art & pillows is wonderful! I use lots of their seeds & they're great as gifts too!!
I had a space where I removed spreading Echinacea (to relocate & gift it) so I just cleared the roots & raked it with an open mind as I have a big variety of perennials in a small space of hills.
I decided I would do delphiniums, pink & scarlet peony poppies & then add in other annuals/new perennials. As an artist, I love the mixed up bright colors, heights & textures.
We had a very mild winter this year & no real snow here so I was able to ~~put the seeds all in the freezer~~ & then just toss them on that area & walk them in.
HAPPY GARDENING!!!!
Good germination
Ordered these and directly sowed in cold season. Was so happy to see them come up!
