Biquinho Pepper

Capsicum chinense

These "little beaks" burst with tangy, peppery flavor. Pouting is impossible!

Biquinho means "little beak" in Portuguese, but it also means "pout"—which is not something you will do when enjoying these delectable little treats. Typically prepared by pickling in a sweet and salty brine and often enjoyed as appetizers at a bar, these peppers possess a highly fruity flavor that shines against (or through) accompanying dishes. Excellent as pizza toppers, with fresh bread, and as part of a Brazilian-inspired mezzo plate. Maturity is late in the season and comes in a big wave; pickling not only accentuates their flavor but helps to quickly process the bounty when it comes.

In this work, São Paulo-based Thiago Limón aims to evoke the state of Minas Gerais, the birthplace of Biquinho Peppers. Branches of the plant surround local landscapes, and its vividly-dancing colors and forms convey a sense of "Brazilian-ness." https://thiagolimon.com.br
