Crackerjack Mix African Marigold

Tagetes erecta

Conventionally Grown

Beneficial companion plant boasts large pom-pom blooms.

This classic African marigold will surprise you with its abundance of puffy orange-yellow flowers on tall, robust plants. As with most marigolds, this one is very easy to grow and will add spark to your garden. Attractive to beneficial insects, the long, sturdy stems also make this a great choice for cutting.

Growing instructions
Very easy to grow. Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost, then transplant after threat of frost has passed. Alternatively, direct-sow seeds outdoors 1 inch apart, then thin to 18 inches apart once seedlings have 1-2 sets of true leaves. Marigolds prefer full sun and moderate water. Remove fading flowers to encourage a longer flowering season.

The children at Stetser Elementary School in Chester, PA, planted African marigolds in June. We think that the marigolds are gold rather than orange because it was such a hot summer. The plants took a while to germinate because of the heat but now they are finally blooming and they are beautiful!
