Chesnok Red Hardneck Garlic

Chesnok Red is a Purple Stripe variety of garlic, and perhaps the most beautiful garlic we offer. It has excellent flavor, especially when roasted, imparting garlicky sweetness to cooked dishes, without overwhelming heat.
This hardy garlic is relatively easy to grow, producing 6-10 cloves per bulb in tightly wrapped pinkish-red skins. Stores moderately well, around 4-6 months if handled properly after harvest.

Garlic is sold in pound quantities. There are typically 50-65 cloves per pound; each clove successfully grown will produce a full bulb. One pound of hardneck garlic can plant between 20-30 feet and will yield about 5 times that amount.

Hardneck Garlic stores for 4-5 months and therefore must be planted by late October. No refunds will be issued for Hardneck Garlic varieties AFTER October 31st.

I live in 7A. My first attempt growing garlic. Planted 56 cloves in a raised bed ( mid October) all of the cloves produced bulbs. I’m very happy with results. These are the smaller bulbs after curing.
One pound was more than I needed but I picked the best cloves and am happy with the harvest.

About 3 of the heads appeared diseased. The rest were fine

Thank you for your review. We will be happy to replace or refund any garlic that is diseased or damaged. During the packing process, we inspect each bulb thoroughly before shipping it out. Sometimes a few slip by undetected. We apologize for the inconvenience.
The bulbs didn’t get as big as anticipated, but they were very good.

Very happy with prior purchases Chesnok Red Hard neck Garlic. Next week Oct 12 the new cloves will be planted. Looking forward to another excellent crop thanks to Hudson Velley Seed.
sprouted beautifully but super small cloves upon harvest
Very disappointed! Ordered early and delivery was slow. When received the bulbs and cloves were very small, soft and looked old with many being brown. Not up to Hudson Valley’s reputation!

I had a great garlic crop last year and your seed garlic that I planted for this years harvest is sleeping under the snow. At this point in the year I have no garlic braids left only a few toes in olive oil in the fridge. So, there is nothing to photograph. I’m looking forward to another good harvest this July/August time frame.
I fire roasted the garlic and then added the cooled soft garlic into an olive oil. The pungent flavor profile of the Chesnok garlic combined with the oils was remarkable!
Unfortunately I was not able to plant this batch. But I will be ordering more for planting this year.

1st time buying this garlic, got quite a few cloves from the lb. i bought. have planted them as of 10/13/22 and im guessing somewhere around 76 cloves in a 4x10 ' bed. on another note, i love going to Hudson Valley Seed Co. to purchase locally developed seeds. i love the service and pleasantry of everyone who has helped me out..always recommend them to my fellow gardeners!

I haven’t planted the garlic yet. Still waiting for some colder weather in our area of Connecticut. I was impressed with how quickly the garlic came and how beautifully it was packaged in a mesh fabric bag. More importantly, the one page guide to preparing the planting bed, as well as how to plant the garlic has been immensely helpful. I can’t wait to get them in the ground!
