Keystone Giant Pepper
Capsicum annuum
Conventionally Grown
A reliable heirloom that yields massive, thick-walled, sweet bell peppers.
This is a classic, dependable heirloom for any gardener who dreams of growing truly massive, softball-sized bell peppers. The 'Keystone Giant' lives up to its name, forming a sturdy, stress-tolerant plant that is widely adaptable to a variety of climates. Developed from 'California Wonder' for even greater size, it has been a garden favorite for years. It's also notably resilient, offering good resistance to mosaic virus, which makes it a truly reliable performer for home gardeners.
The reward for its steady growth is a generous harvest of impressive, four-lobed, blocky peppers. The fruits are prized for their incredibly thick, sweet, and juicy walls. While delicious when picked green, they mature to a brilliant scarlet red with one of the sweetest flavors available. This pepper's huge size and sturdy walls make it the absolute ideal choice for stuffing, and it's just as wonderful for grilling or slicing fresh into salads.

Good germination, but very late to fruit. Just picked a bunch of green ones before the first frost.
The plants were abysmal. The pepper - maybe 12” high & 2 peppers. Zucchini - 1; broccoli (2) & cauliflower (2) - 0; celery (2) - 2 stalks that were edible; Brussels sprouts (2) - a couple of little buds, dried up & shriveled. Now I’ve grown my garden so well that I was giving veg away to everyone, with minimal plants/harvest. It’s not my garden, was not the heat or lack of rain, just very bad quality seedlings. First & last time I will order from you. Home Depot seedlings much better quality!
Hi Donna, We are so sorry to hear that you had issues with both the seeds you purchased (Keystone Giant) and some of the seedlings you purchased with us as well. I am delighted to hear that your pepper plants did indeed produce for you, as May is quite late in our growing zone to be sowing Pepper Seeds. It is recommended to sow peppers indoors 6-10 weeks before the last frost date. I would imagine the late start date may be part of the short stature and low yield of those plants. Feel free to reach out with any questions. Our customer service team is always available for troubleshooting.
Some of the peppers turned yellow instead of red.
