Purple Peacock Broccoli

Certified Organic

Brassica oleracea

Show-stopping purple-headed broccoli with tender kale-like leaves.

One of the showiest and most flamboyantly-adorned birds on the planet now has a rival. With blue green streaked feathers, an ombre train, and an iridescent crest worn on top, this broccoli is a bird of another feather. The stems, leaves, and florets show as much variation as from one pretentious peacock to another. You may find yourself being as picky as a peahen, selecting which broccolis to invite in for dinner based purely on the extravagance of their colorful display. And just like a peafowl breeder, you may begin selecting which traits you want passed on generation to generation by letting your favorite plants go to seed.

Not only does this variety stand out for its unique medium-sized, purple-hued florets, but its bright-purple-veined leaves are just as good for eating. They're tender and sweet and can be used like kale. Purple Peacock is heat tolerant as well.

Artwork by Hollie Shortino. Her intricate painting is a fanciful celebration of this showy broccoli. As if a peacock needed more flair, this one has plumes topped with broccoli florets and wears a broccoli crown upon his head.
