These exquisite and tenacious blooms come back year after year. Though the plant may die back to seemingly nothing in the winter,  the rootstock is merely taking a nap before springing up even stronger the next year. Unlike annuals, some perennials don't bloom during their first season, so plant them somewhere with a vision to the future and wait patiently. Most perennials do well in containers too, but may need protection in winter.
