A truly dazzling plant, this soft-yellow native biennial flower blooms at dusk throughout June into early July, so quickly that you can can watch the petals unfurling in real time. Its sweet fragrance attracts night pollinators such as the hawk moth; watch the videos in our gallery to get a taste of the show. The flowers self sow and can establish a patch, but in our experience this variety needs additional sowing or transplanting to endure beyond the second year (though we occasionally find stray plants and patches popping up by the compost or along the garden edges). The seeds of Evening Primrose are often made into oil and used for medicinal purposes.

Growing instructions
To prevent Evening Primrose from becoming invasive, dead-head the flowers daily as soon as they fade, or harvest the flowering stalk before it drops seeds. Failure to do so can result in many many plants in the years to come.
