Dragon Carrot

Daucus carota

Certified Organic

This purple-skinned root glows gold within.

Plant Breeder John Navazio and his colleagues developed this variety from one of Chinese origin. It dwells below the soil with the Fucanglong Dragon, the dragon of the underworld and hidden treasures, an apt companion for this carrot, as its purple skin hides a bright orange and gold interior with a terrific, sweet-and-carroty flavor. Delight in the aesthetics of this variety, and rejoice in the work of small-scale and public-interest plant breeders: the true hidden treasures of organic agriculture.

Growing instructions
For best results, always sow carrots in a very well-prepared, fertile, smooth garden bed. Choose your least weedy soil for carrots, as they are tricky to cultivate when young. Keep summer sowings moist to improve germination. Thin to indicated spacing. For sweetest roots, start a fall crop mid-summer. The cooler temperatures cause the starches in the roots to turn into sugars.

Started these in the spring and they were so easy to grow! They taste amazing too! Now I’m going to sow a second round and see if I can get a good fall crop. So beautiful and makes me so happy

These grew so well even though I planted them a little early. Had much better success with these than the Danvers carrots I grew the last couple of years. Will definitely be growing these again. They taste amazing and are so beautiful.

First time growing carrots and they turned out perfectly. This is the second harvest, my first harvest was a little stunted due to the winter weather but once spring rolled around they did much better. They taste so peppery and sweet. Highly recommend these carrots!

I was so excited to get dragon carrots but received dragon’s tongue beans instead. I’m sure they will be fun to plant but I was disappointed it wasn’t carrots. How to I go about getting an exchange?
