Inchelium Red Softneck Garlic
Allium sativum
Grown for the first time at Hudson Valley Seed Co.! Inchelium Red is an artichoke-type, softneck variety with a robust, lingering flavor and medium heat. It produces mid-sized, reliable bulbs with 4-12 big cloves in light purple wrappers.
This hardy garlic is relatively easy to grow, and it stores very well, around 6-9 months if handled properly after harvest. For more info on the differences between softnecks and hardnecks see the growing instructions below.
Garlic is sold in pound quantities. There are typically 50-65 cloves per pound; each clove successfully grown will produce a full bulb the following year.

On the differences between softnecks and hardnecks:
Softnecks are best for warmer climates as they don't tend to be as winter hardy. They also store longer than many hardneck varieties. Hardnecks have fewer, larger cloves per bulb making them easier to peel. They also develop a long flowering stem (the scape), unlike softnecks.
