Pride of Wisconsin Melon
Cucumis melo
A sweet and juicy muskmelon with top-notch flavor!
Reliable, even in drought years, this fabulous muskmelon delivers sweet, old-fashioned flavor. The fruits are oblong, ridged, and hard-shelled with a loose netting and blue-green skin ripening to pale yellow. The delectable, juicy-but-firm flesh is a beautiful golden-orange. Expect good yields of high-quality melons ranging from 4-8 lbs. Outstanding in our farm trials, this 1930s heirloom variety was originally grown for the Milwaukee markets.

Sow indoors under protection 2-3 weeks before last frost, or direct sow after last frost and when soil has warmed significantly. Provide fertile soil and plenty of space. As fruits mature, elevate using flat, porous stones or ceramic shards to avoid rotting fruit. Melons are ripe when they slip from the vine with a gentle tug; color will deepen and fruit will become aromatic.
