Easy to grow winter squash with bush habit.

A fall staple. This open-pollinated acorn squash is perfect for crisp fall days. It's the first to ripen and doesn't store as long as other squashes, so it's perfect for transitioning from summer fare into fall meals. Traditional preparation includes roasting and stuffing.
Plants are smaller than other winter squash types, making it a good choice for gardens with space limitations.

Growing instructions
Direct sow after frost, or start indoors 2-3 weeks earlier. Transplant in hills spaced 6' apart, 3 plants per hill, or in rows 36" apart. Plants can grow 3-4 feet, so give plenty of space to take over. Mulch early to help suppress weeds. Harvest when squash are dark green. Store in a cool, dry, dark place for up to 2 months.

    This variety produces a good number of acorn squash in a small space. I plant it between sections of squash that send out long vines to allow a little more room. If cured and kept cool it stays well into the winter.

    I've always had great success with Hudson Valley products, but this one did not do well for me. A couple of years ago I had a couple of volunteer acorn squash plants that did great. I wanted to try again, but of the 9 vines that originally grew, I only have 3 very sad little squashes. Not sure what happened with these.

    Sadly perhaps because of hot weather my pole beans have not produced one bean!! they have grown nicely, gotten plenty of water but again no beans. I'm hoping that as the fall weather approaches we'll get some beans. I've never used these seeds before & never had an issue with produce. Plus the bush beans, not from you, have done great!
