Bumble Bee Mix Cherry Tomato

Solanum lycopersicum

Certified Organic

A bee-utiful mix of eye-catching striped cherry tomatoes.

When new open-pollinated varieties are released they can sometimes get lost in the maze of hybrids touted to growers. If these new OP varieties don't catch on, they may disappear. We trial new varieties to discover which ones deserve some serious buzz. Over the past decade, plant breeder Fred Hempel has been using classical breeding practices to create colorful and delicious new varieties he calls "Artisan Tomatoes." We adore Hempel's Bumble Bee line the striped cherries are both pretty and tasty.

Contains Purple Bumble Bee, Sunrise Bumble Bee, and Pink Bumble Bee cherry tomatoes. Grow a few plants this year and you'll find yourself buzzing like a bee to each. Indeterminate.

Growing instructions
Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost, then transplant outdoors to indicated spacing after all threat of frost has passed. All tomatoes benefit from staking; indeterminate varieties require it. Prune tomatoes when they reach about 24" high and are starting to produce small suckers. Keep plants from coming into contact with the soil, and water at the roots to prevent the spread of soil borne disease.

Hands down my favorite tomato of the season! Not only are the colors beautiful but they are abundant and just the right amount of sweet to eat right off the vine. This is going to become a garden staple of mine moving forward!

The seedlings grew very well indoors and transplanted well. The plants were well-behaved and the tomatoes were easy to harvest.

It's the first day of fall, and I'm still harvesting these tomatoes (zone 7b). They were the clear winner of the growing season. Looking forward to growing them again next year.

Can I give it 10 stars?
I have grown a few types of cherry tomatoes in the past, but nothing like the Bumble Bee. Each plant is strong and healthy and produces tresses upon tresses of the most flavor-packed cherry tomatoes I have ever had. The skin is a little thicker giving it a nice solid pop when you bite into it. They are crack resistant and have withstood the extreme heat we are experiencing just south of Boston, MA this summer (4 heat waves 90+ degrees) in zone 6b. I've also been hit with heavy wind storms, the worst level of drought we have ever had here, and a massive and nasty infestation of tomato hornworms. This variety has survived all of it like a champ. From this point forward, there will always be Bumble Bee tomatoes in my garden! As a side note- I gave some of my seed packet to my mom who lives in Rochester, NH (slightly cooler zone and higher elevation), and hers came in before mine even though they were started a month after me. Her plants are doing fantastic as well! Very simply- you MUST try these tomatoes!
Cooking notes- I cut these in half and pan roasted (cast iron pan) them with garlic, shallot, sea salt, and thin sliced baby zucchini in a drizzle of olive oil. Topped with fresh basil and oregano and served with grilled chicken and penne pasta. Incredible flavor when roasted and they hold their shape well for nice bites.
