For steady supply, direct sow outdoors when soil becomes workable in spring until 6 weeks before first fall frost, at 2-week intervals. Sow seeds 12 per foot, then thin to 6" apart. Lettuce requires full sun to partial shade and prefers steady moisture. Tolerates moderate soil fertility.
