Brilliant Beet Blend

Beta vulgaris

Certified Organic

Fodder, Faberge, and the Digital Age

In the early 1900s, Pavel Ivanovich Kharitonenko was known as "The Sugar King." He lorded over the Russian agriculture scene with his considerable riches, garnered from his involvement in the sugar beet industry. What did this baron with impeccable taste do with his beet-based wealth? He collected the work of famed jeweler Peter Carl Faberge, creator of the world-renowned "Faberge Eggs." The artwork on this pack digitally re-imagines the natural jewel-like brilliance of beets as priceless decorative objects, transforming the humble root from fodder to Faberge and then into the digital age. Grow your own deliciously lavish jewels with this brilliant blend of colorful beets.

Contains Detroit Dark Red, Cylindra, Bulls Blood, Chioggia, and Touchstone Gold Beets.

Growing instructions
Direct sow starting 1-2 weeks before last frost and continue until 8-10 weeks before first fall frost. Beets prefer fertile, weed-free soil for formation of large roots. Thin young seedlings to every 2", then pull out every other beet to enjoy at the baby stage, leaving the remainder to grow to full size. Leave later sowings in the ground for harvest through November, then pull and store.

About the artist

Artwork by Bill Rybak. Through digital media, Bill creates visual metaphors like this work that turns humble beets into priceless Faberge eggs. Inspired by his depiction, we were able to find a historical connection between beets and Faberge. In this case, life imitates art.

Thanks for your seeds. I get the art packs when I can. I have a bare wall in my garden shed/green house. I’m going to decorate the wall with them. They are lovely. And I have great success with your seeds.

This is the second product that I am leaving a very low rating for. NOT EVEN ONE OF THESE BEET SEEDS SPROUTED. I BOUGHT 3 art packs, totaling $11.95 and not one plant even poked its head above ground. I also left a very low rating for your Ukranian cucumber…..had the same experience with them also…..not one seed sprouted. I am not a novice to gardening……..spent my childhood on the garden with my folks so I learned to garden at a very early age.
This year I went to a different seed company because these seeds simply did not sprout.

    Hello Mary,
We're very sorry that your seeds did not germinate. We have sent you a direct email in hopes of further conversation and resolution.
Thank you for letting us know.

I m not able to describe my Feb 2022 purchase because it is too cold to plant it on March 29. We love the variety of beets that come out of the ground from this assortment. We saw them the first time about 5 years ago at the Philadelphia flower show. We bought them for 3 years in a row. Then the pandemic hit. Luckily we found them on the Hudson website. The production is high and the variety is exciting.
